|If there is an anime that I am so eager to watch because of the narration, then this is the one. Voiced by Arai Satomi (you might remember her Kuroko-style voice from Toaru Kagaku no Railgun), the narrator really plays a “role” that I have never felt before in an anime.
Our heroine, Ookami Ryouko, is a tsundere-type strong girl with real fighting capability thanks to her hard work building up her skill. Our heroine’s best friend, Akai Ringo, is a loli-type character, high pitched voice, but care so much about Ryouko.
Our hero, Morino Ryoushi, is unlike most hero character in an anime. Instead of being indecisive yet strangely attract all girls nearby, Ryoushi’s heart is set only to Ryouko since the beginning. And no, he is not typical “ordinary guy who suddenly become cool”. Ryoushi is a super shy boy who has extreme phobia when being stared at or seen by other people.
Our three heroes are part of an “organization” called Otogi Bank. It’s a club-like activity in a high-school that helps other students with their requests. What kind of requests? Basically, any kind of.
The help does not come free. But instead of money, they calculate the “payment” of the help in the form of “favor”. A person who asked for Otogi Bank’s help is in “debt” with them, if one day Otogi Bank needs their help with another case, they must give their support as requested. And so the story begins.
Some other reviews mentioned about this anime being a parody of “Little Red Riding Hood”, “The Ant and the Grasshopper” and other fairy tales. While the character design sometimes do resemble those fairy tales, the anime story itself has nothing to do with those. I skipped from watching this anime at all in 2010 because of those misleading reviews.
Thankfully, I revisited this anime last month and found it interesting. Seiyuu-wise, there are a LOT of my favourite seiyuus in this anime. Horie Yui, Kugimiya Rie, Kawasumi Ayako, Arai Satomi and Toyosaki Aki in one anime ! Making it an ALL STAR for my personal taste. Recommended for age 15+ (violent scenes).
