Aincrad, revisited.

The final battle is a bit different from what I imagined as a grand battle against very powerful boss with flashy moves or something like that. Instead, our final battle happens in real life. With a normal knife instead of all those legendary weapon.

Real life Sugou tries to kill real life Kirigaya Kazuto (Kirito) in front of Asuna’s hospital. Kirito’s final thrust on Oberon’s eye in last episode with zero pain absorber affects Sugou’s real eyes.

Kazuto wins and is very tempted to kill Sugou after all he has done to Asuna. But he choose to let him alive. Good decision ! Who wants to kill a bastard and potentially can land few years in jail for ourselves when there’s a real life charming girlfriend waiting? And so Kazuto goes into the hospital and finally meet Asuna, in flesh, for the first time.

Next scenes are about school life. All SAO players of school age are organized to attend one dedicated school. So of course Kirito, Asuna, Lisbeth and Silica are now attending the same school. We get to see Asuna’s legendary sandwiches in real world. And we get to see some sweet moments of Kirito & Asuna.

For the final closure, all SAO players are having real-life gathering. Other than talking about SAO, they also talk about the “seed” given to Kirito by Kayaba. They uploaded that virtual world engine to the internet, free for everyone. And in short time, new servers of online game with virtual world are spreading. All compatible to each other, allowing players to visit another world using their current avatar.

Naturally Suguha feels left out as she doesn’t share the same experience with the rest of them. Having experienced some offline gathering myself, when online gamers meet in real life, all they can talk about is about the game, and the plan to play more games.

But then a dance scene of Kirito and Leafa follow. While the dance is beautiful and Kajiura Yuki‘s background music is great, I still couldn’t really understand “why a dance?”. I mean, Kirito already have a super cute (and almost perfect) girlfriend, and now he’s giving hope to a step sister who are totally still have feelings for him, and what’s that supposed to mean?

Asuna has a new avatar, ALO style, and I love it !

Anyway, the story ends by SAO players goes to Aincrad world again. This time is the version where no one dies. And they want to re-play it from the beginning again, completing the game up to 100th floor (or 99 maybe? since there’s no Heathcliff to wait as the final boss in 100th floor).
